UNO MINDA: SAP Champion, a Frappe/ERPNext learning platform for 3,000+ manufacturing employees
India
A Tier-1 automotive components manufacturer needed to train, assess and certify a 3,000-strong workforce without the cost and blind spots of classroom delivery. ATS built SAP Champion — a custom learning management system on Frappe/ERPNext with automated assessments, QR-verified certificates and real-time completion dashboards fed by HR data.
The challenge
Classroom training with no data behind it
UNO MINDA supplies major OEMs, and its manufacturing workforce of more than 3,000 employees has to be trained, assessed and certified — for skills, for compliance and for the standards its customers audit. Training was classroom-based: expensive to run, hard to schedule around shifts, and tracked in registers that produced no real-time picture of who was trained on what. Management could not answer a simple question — how ready is this plant's workforce? — without a manual exercise.
The company wanted a structured digital platform: a library of training modules, assessment before and after training, certificates that could not be faked, and dashboards showing completion by department, location and skill category. It also had to enrol the right people automatically from HR data rather than by hand. ATS built it as a custom LMS module on Frappe/ERPNext through our Frappe practice.
Our approach
A learning platform that enrols itself from HR data
Delivered by our Backend Engineering practice.
ATS built SAP Champion as a custom Learning Management System module on Frappe/ERPNext. Training content is organised into structured module libraries by skill category. Each module carries automated pre- and post-assessment workflows, so the platform measures what an employee knew before and after, not just attendance. Passing an assessment issues a digital certificate with QR verification.
Enrolment is role-based and automatic: the platform integrates with existing HR data and enrols employees into the training their role and grade require, so a new hire or a promotion triggers the right curriculum without an HR administrator intervening. Management dashboards show real-time completion rates by department, location and skill category — the workforce-readiness view the company had been missing.
- Structured training module libraries by skill category
- Automated pre- and post-assessment engine
- Digital certification with QR verification
- Role-based training enrolment driven by HR data integration
- Real-time completion dashboards by department, location and skill
Architecture
Custom LMS module on Frappe/ERPNext, integrated with HR
The platform is a custom LMS module built on the Frappe Framework and ERPNext, in Python on MariaDB, with Vue.js for the learner and administrator interfaces. Training modules, assessments, attempts, results and certificates are DocTypes with their own workflows, which is what lets the assessment engine, certificate issuance and dashboards run as native Frappe reports and automations rather than a separate system.
HR data integration is the piece that makes enrolment automatic: employee, role and grade data flow into the platform over REST APIs and drive the role-based enrolment rules. Certificates carry a QR code that resolves to a verification endpoint, so a certificate can be checked on the shop floor or by an auditor. The approach — extend ERPNext with a purpose-built app rather than bend a generic product — is described on our custom Frappe app development page.

What changed
3,000 employees in three months, training cost down 45%
More than 3,000 employees were enrolled and trained on the platform within the first three months. Training completion tracking moved from manual registers to real-time digital dashboards. Assessment automation reduced HR administration effort by 60%, and QR-verified digital certificates eliminated fraudulent certification claims.
Shifting from classroom to digital delivery reduced training cost per employee by 45%. For a certification platform at state scale, see RKCL; for ERPNext on the manufacturing floor, see Jyoti CNC Automation.
